2015 NZ Junior Open Champs CrownedSNZ horizontal small

The final games have been played and the winners have been crowned. The trophies are staying on this side of the Tasman even if there was a hairy moment to get there.

The Girls Open started as all of New Zealand would have hoped with Ellie Epke managing to edge out the first game over Australian competitor Lakeesha Rarere. However Rarere lifted her game in the second and managed to storm ahead to win the second and third comfortably over Ellie. With pressure building and the girls throwiong everything into their game point for point was exchanged. Rarere had her chances and at 10 all the grandstand was tense but Ellie managed to edge forward to take the fourth and level the scores at 2 all. The fifth went blow for blow again but Ellie managed to squeak forward and her Australian challenger couldn't manage to make this her second title in 2 weeks with Ellie clinching the win.

In the Boys Open Luke Jones wasn't going to let fellow team mate from the 2014 World Junior Boys Scott Galloway get any smell of victory. Jones showed his class and skill and managed to make light work of Scott with Scott just not managing to find the shots to get in front of Luke. With Luke having missed out on a title in Australia he wasn't going to make the same mistake this weekend.

Thank you Timaru Squash Club for their hospitality throughout the weekend. Many of the players will head down to Invercargill to compete in the hotly contested Trans Tasman Series on Tuesday and Wednesday as well as the Oceania Junior Championship to be held at Squash City. Games start at 12pm Friday and we are sure the Australians will be looking to claim some titles.
